Reasons to live in a campevan
There are many reasons why I want to live in a camper van.
The main reason is financial. I pay rent, which while affordable, is just dead money. It is going down the drain. Now that I've paid for this van it is all mine, no more to pay. Recently I got diagnosed with a pretty bad illness so that's going to really eat up a lot of my income just treating it.
In recent months issues at work have also meant that I am considering looking for a new job. I figure my job is not as secure as I believed it to be, so the bus gives me an opportunity to move with the work. Also a medical issue means that I may not be able to do my job for as long as I want to do it.
I suppose a part of me also wants to get away from it all some times. Life can be stressful, but when it comes down to it I like the pay packet that comes with my job. The people I work with are pretty good too. The job itself is interesting and a lot of people respect me for it. I actually earn quite a lot of money, but it is not enough to buy a house with. Strangely it is enough to afford an overseas holiday every year, so that says a lot about house affordability in Australia right now. Medical issues though may mean that overseas holidays will be a thing of the past.
Unlike many people I've seen or read about living in cars or vans I'm not looking to drop out of society, and I'm not some want to be revolutionary. I'm not a survivalist either despite not wanting to be dependent on mainstream infrastructure. Every survivalist I've ever met tended to come across as just a bit on the crazy side, particularly those who based their survival around the use of guns. I have no interest or need for guns. I've seen some very bizarre stuff written by people who are survivalists and / or very political.
I live in Australia. We tend not to take anything too serious here. Certainly not politics. So forgive me if I choose not to rant and rave about oil crisis, terrorism and survivalist crap. None of that crap even enters my radar. You don't have to be a loony to want to live in a camper van. You don't have to be a loony to have no other choice but to live in your car.
I just want a quiet life, with the emphasis on quiet.
