Give it a test run. If you really want to live in a car or van and you are living in a house / flat / whatever give living in a car or a van a try. Treat it like a sort of trial run. Can you live in your car or van for a week without using the resources of your home? Or do you find you have to head back to your home for things?
Stay clean. Stay clean and fresh. Shave regularly, wash regularly, wash your cloths regularly If you smell and look homeless people are going to judge you a lot.
Decide from the start if your aim is to get back into mainstream society and back into a home or if you want to live your life on the road. Plan and make decisions accordingly.
If you have time to plan ahead use it. Buy things like a porta potty, dual battery system and battery inverter. Better still, trade your car for a small camper van. A small camper van like a VW Kombi van will make a world of difference to your quality of life.
If you must live in a van. Carpet is your friend. On the floor a couple of layers will make good sound, heat and painful bump insulation. You can also glue it to the walls and ceiling. It really helps if you have a low ceiling and bump your head a bit.
If you must buy fast food try to stick with healthy food. Subway and Ali-Baba have good food. Take a few extra (not a heap extra) hand towels and use the toilets to wash up if needed.
